What Is That Windows Key On Your Keyboard For?

Most new keyboards for Windows computers come with a Windows key. It is the key with the Windows logo picture on it that is located on the bottom row between the Ctrl and Alt keys. Press it and the Start menu pops up. Not impressed, then combine it with the letter F. Now the search window pops up. Now open some windows, then press the Windows key and D key. All the windows are minimized. Press it again and they return.

Below is a list of the different Windows key combinations. I guarantee there is at least one that you will use frequently.

Display or hide the Start menu
+ BreakDisplay the System Properties dialogue box
+ DShow the desktop
+ MMinimize all windows
+ Shift + MRestores minimized windows
+ EOpen My Computer
+ FSearch for a file or folder
+ Ctrl + FSearch for computers
+ F1Display Windows Help
+ LLock your computer if you are connected to a network domain, or switch users if you are not connected to a network domain
+ ROpen the Run dialogue box
+ UOpen Utility Manager

There is also an Application key located between the Windows key and the Ctrl key on the right side of the keyboard. You can use this key to display the shortcut menu for the selected item in the program you are running.
